This activity presents students with an image of famous artwork from the Harlem Renaissance. Beneath the image students describe the artwork using adjectives. Students also explain why the adjective describes the artwork. Then, students give synonyms for the adjectives they chose. This is a simple way to integrate social studies and language arts in a way that addresses multicultural goals, African-American history in a novel and interesting way. These can also be part of a great bulletin board or display of student work!
