PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Harriet Tubman, Her Life and Times is an informational reading and writing assignment unit for upper elementary students. It can be equally utilized in an ELA class or a Social Studies class.

Each of the 4 texts can be used one at a time or all at once. Each text has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and grammar work. Three of the four texts have a short creative writing assignment.

The texts follow Harriet’s life from birth in 1820 until her death in 1913. The four texts are titled “Who Was Harriet Tubman?”, Harriet’s Early Life”, “Harriet Runs Away”, and “Harriet, Underground Railroad Conductor”. The passages explain her life in Maryland, her decision to leave for freedom, and her work in the northern states and Canada. Each passage is about 400 words in length.

A full answer key is included.

This unit is part of a bundle of three "Life and Times" resources (the other units are about Anne Frank and Helen Keller) which is sold at a discounted price. It may be viewed here:
