Harriet Tubman is known today for her work on the Underground Railroad helping slaves escape to freedom. The novel, Lead Us to Freedom, Harriet Tubman! is a biography of Harriet Tubman. It details Harriet's childhood, her escape from slavery, and her work as an Underground Railroad conductor in a way that is easily understood by a second or third grade student. Biographies are an important component of the Common Core ELA standards, and this biography is particularly well written and interesting for 2nd-4th grade students. It is also a great way to integrate reading and history to meet teaching standards.
This product is the perfect complement to the book, and contains Common Core based questions for every chapter as well as vocabulary activities and a close reading activity on the Underground Railroad.
