Harriet Tubman Activity: Compound Words for Harriet Tubman Story "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Ann McGovern:
My classes enjoy making a compound word book after reading the book Harriet Tubman Wanted: Dead or Alive by Ann McGovern. They love to look at books made by previous classes! They get so excited to see pages made by a sibling.
How I Use This Book
After reading and discussing the book, we make this class compound word book.
I let my students choose the preselected words as I read them. Next, they look through the book to find how the word was used in the story. Then they write a sentence using notebook paper using the word to tell about the story. They must use their own words. I proofread the sentences and then they write the sentence on the page of this book and illustrate that part of the story. Then they share.
I give clues as needed to help them find the words. They can usually find the words without much help.
Compound Words Included in Product
There is one word per page and a line to write the sentence on with space for an illustration.
The book is not included.
