At Teaching for Change, we believe that all learning should be student centered and driven by the needs of the individual student. The activities included in this close reading unit are student centered and mastery focused. The first activity is an individual close read, followed by a whole class close read using provided close reading symbols. There is space to make annotations in the story. The next activity is a carousel brainstorming activity that is used to help get students interacting with the story as well as with their peers. These questions are meant to cover all levels of Blooms as well as literary analysis questions. Last but not least, we have included a compare/contrast viewing guide (the video can be downloaded from YouTube), and a reflective writing question.
