One of the most interactive novels I've had the opportunity to teach so far has been J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I used this novel with a 12th grade English 4 (British Literature) class, but it can certainly be used with almost any age group!
This product is a sorting hat quiz with seven questions (the magic number!). I am also included a color-coded answer key for your convenience. The questions range from "favorite subject in school" questions to short scenarios with action choices.
I used this quiz with my students by giving them the quiz before we read the chapter with the Sorting Hat Ceremony, and without explaining what it was for. I "graded" each student's quiz and used the results to "sort" them into the four Houses.
The next class, right before reading the chapter in which Harry gets sorted, I produced a witch's hat and proceeded to magically sort each one! They were so excited! I also handed each one a small bag of jelly beans with their house's name on a tag, but of course all of that is optional.
My quiz is formatted so that two quizzes appear on each page for easy printing!
