PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hook students on the topic of the day by asking them to analyze the images found on envelopes! President Truman issued an Executive Order to integrate the military and Black baseball player Jackie Robinson was hired by the White Brooklyn Dodgers. By collecting facts found on the two first day covers (envelopes with commemorative stamps, appropriate postmark and artwork), reading Executive Order 9981, and taking part in a teacher led discussion, students can draw conclusions as to which event started the modern day Civil Rights movement. Students can write a reflective paragraph explaining how each event impacted society and moved the nation to being a more perfect union.
