THESE PRODUCTS MAY BE USED BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER STUDENTS READ THE BOOK.
These crossword puzzles are based on vocabulary from HATCHET.
The clues in the first puzzle are challenging words from Chapters 1 through 6 for which students must provide synonyms (turbulence = wind; grazed = brushed).
In the second puzzle, the original sentences in which the words appear have been provided: "...He knew what a STAGGERING amount of wood it would take." Students must provide either synonyms (huge) or antonyms (tiny) for each challenging word.
In the third puzzle, the clues consist of both the definitions and the challenging words, but the challenging words have been scrambled. Students use a thesaurus plus their knowledge of spelling to unscramble each word and fit it into the puzzle.
The fourth puzzle focuses on 25 of the words from the first three puzzles. These 25 words are also from the Words to Know list of the Hatchet edition of Bookmarks Plus, so teachers can use both products to reinforce meaning.
