This is a 2 page PDF document that has been created for Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I created this to use with my students for after we had finished reading the book. It is a way for them to reflect on the story and share their thoughts in a fun and creative way. It allowed me to check for comprehension and understanding as well as continue to practice other skills related to literature.
In this activity your students will...
-Review the book and explain their review
-Choose a symbol to represent the book and explain why they chose it
-Describe the main character
-Share their connections with the text (text-to-text, text-to-self, text-to-world)
-Write about new vocabulary they learned
-Write what they think the theme of the novel is
-Create their own survival pack and explain their reasoning behind what they chose
-Two pages of doodle notes (for students to complete- I usually print them front and back on one paper)
-Two pages of directions
There are many different ways you could use this with your students. I personally would do one page a day and I would project the directions on the board while the students worked. You could also post the directions on Google Classroom and assign this as homework or independent work. You could also print the directions for each of the students.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
