Product Description
This Hate That Cat Novel Study includes a book journal, link to Google Slides presentation with important poetry, sound device, and figurative language terms used in the book journal, link to Quizlet for flashcards, link to poet project, and an assessment on the important terms and the book.

This is a great way to introduce poetry in the classroom and begin with the basics of figurative language. This product includes a pacing guide to help you plan the unit.

In this unit, students will be required to:

♦ Identify parts of a poem
♦ Identify rhyme scheme and sound devices in poems, such as alliteration,
onomatopoeia, assonance, and consonance
♦ Identify and understand figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and
allusion
♦ Understand the character and events in the book

Differentiation could include...
♦ Students can work independently or with a small group.
♦ Some students can be given the book journal with definitions already given for
important words, while others can be given the blank copy of important words in
the book journal to write the definitions themselves.
