If you’re like me and teach late elementary grades or above, you know it is hard to find many Halloween-week lesson plans for our students.
I decided to do something about it and created lesson plans that are easy for the teacher, engaging for the kids, and most of all worthwhile! Be sure to check out my other Halloween-themed lesson plans and the Halloween Super Pack.
This Haunted Geography lesson plan will take you step by step through how to use the website Haunted Places and show you how to use this site to reinforce geography skills such as map reading, scale and direction. Students will read about haunted places in their state and also use basic Math skills and a little research to figure out the answers on the worksheet. It would be helpful if you have paper copies of your state map handy. These can be obtained free at many rest areas or Chambers of Commerce, or possibly your county or precinct office. If these are not available you can have students "Google" for their state map.
Make sure to check out the end of the lesson for three more variations on this lesson using the Haunted Places website. This could extend the lesson to two days or more.
Note: Your kids will need computers and a good wifi connection to do this lesson. Also, since the subject matter is "haunted" places, teacher discretion is advised.
Hope you and your kids enjoy it!
