Take a Stroll Through the Haunted Pumpkin Patch!
Need a fun way for your students to practice their knowledge of sums and addends found within fact families? How about a math center perfect for the month of October? Try the simple game on this file.
The addition and subtraction fact families are presented in a triangular format. One side of a paper card has the family (minus either an addend or the sum), and the respective answer (the missing addend or sum) is on the back side. Students play by solving the missing addend or sum that is face-up on a card, self-check the answer on the back, and if he or she is correct, they get to spin a paper-clip spinner and move through the haunted pumpkin patch that is full of a myriad of jack o' lanterns.
This file contains the Haunted Pumpkin Patch game board (in brown if you prefer color, in white if you don't), a paper-clip spinner (minus the paper-clip), suggested procedures and management, and a set of 160 game cards that will help students to further their knowledge and comfort with addition and subtraction-based fact families (facts are from 1-10).
Your students are certain to have a blast playing this game, all the while becoming more fluent with the sums and addends found within a fact family!
