Designed for young children ages 3-5 with autism and/or intellectual delays, Having Fun is a eight page adapted book (nine with cover) that comes in a printable .pdf file. This book would be excellent for teaching the use of verbs in children with limited speech. I also teach verbs during the health and wellness unit at my school because so much of the vocabulary used to talk about being active consists of verbs. Once printed, I suggest you laminate the individual pages for reading. I've also included matching pieces for vocabulary words I have chosen to highlight in the text. This book focuses on the fringe words: dancing, reading, drinking, eating, singing, playing, running, sleeping. More specific instructions are included for creating your adapted book to last several school years.
This book coordinates with my Verb Vocabulary Folder Game for Early Childhood Special Education
This book is available as part of a parts of speech themed adapted book bundle here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Parts-of-Speech-Adapted-Book-Bundle-5-Adapted-Books-2684208
Adapted books would also be good resources for any young learner, an early childhood special education classroom, simple literacy or math centers for preschool and prekindergarten classrooms and home schoolers who are teaching students with unique abilities. Because the principles of teaching vocabulary are very similar for both language delayed children with special needs and new English learners, my books are also an excellent resource for an ELL/ELD/EFL classroom for young children. Created by Miss Kim Designs for the unique learners in your life.
