Product Description
Wanting to be first in line is not an uncommon behavior for young children.
Many kids take just fine to redirection from the teacher when this is a problem.
However, there are always one or two students who have a strong reaction
to not being able to be first. This simple social story works well when you have
one of those students. Disassociating the meaning of what your student thinks
it means to be first in line is a part of this story. We also do some basic perspective
taking reading thought bubbles of the other students. Like other social stories, this
is best read prior to having to line up. It also is much more effective if it is read
multiple times throughout the week. In many of my classrooms, we have had
numbers on a line with a mark corresponding to a rotational list posted on the door
each week. We’ve also made games out of lining up by statements such as, “If you
are wearing a red shirt, you may line up” or ”If your birthday is in March, you may line up”.
