Practice research and mapping skills while learning about Hawai'i with this tropical themed unit. Students learn the location of the eight Hawaiian islands in relation to each other as an archipelago on two different pages - one emphasizing labeling and the other each island's official color. Teachers can use both sheets or use one or the other to differentiate for students.

Included is a research page for Hawai'i “The Big Island,” Kaho'olawe, Kaua'i, Lana'i, Maui, Moloka'i, Ni'ihau, and O'ahu. In deference to the native Polynesian Hawai'ian people, these spellings are used throughout the unit. Each page includes a map of the island and notetaking spaces for the island nickname, area, color, flower, and population. A suggested feature for mapping (such as cities, mountains) is included for each island page that can be done independently by advanced students or completed with the instructor using Google Maps or atlas resources. There is also a written response space on the pages.

The Hawai'ian unit study includes primary rule, wide rule, and narrow rule lines for the written response area; color and grayscale options for each page; and answer keys. Also included is a bonus tropical themed main idea and details page for recording research notes.
