Health Lesson: Calcium-Helping Teens Know How to Get Enough!


It can be hard to get teens to do something now, that won't benefit them until later...

Most teens don't realize their bodies are like banks, and if they don't bank in enough calcium as teens, 15 years later their bodies can start feeling the negative effects!

And on top of that, teens are downing soda pop and energy drinks instead of milk!!

This lesson engages students by having them write down everything they ate and drank the previous day and then analyze their food intake to see how much calcium they actually got!!

You'd be surprised how few will actually get the 1300 mg. recommended for teens!

Next, they design an "ideal" day for a teen, making sure they get the recommended 1300 mg.

It's perfect, because they will see that it really isn't that hard to have a few glasses of milk, a bit of cheese, some fortified O.J., and a cup of yogurt or ice-cream and get the needed calcium for the day.
