This file attached contains a lesson on the Nutrients and Health related topics dealing with myplate, serving sizes (which should be covered before the lesson), portion sizes (covered previously), and how to make a meal plan suitable for a healthy diet. The lesson is basic in nature, but can be used for any grade level if modifications are made for the difficulty of the lesson. More information and detailed descriptions can be put into the activities for the older kids and younger kids just get them used to using a variety of foods on their plates. The lesson objectives are as follows: During a lesson on meal plans, students will be able to create an accepting environment for all students by listening to everyone’s questions and answers for the entire lesson. After the lesson on meal plans, students will be able to recall all the food groups by answering lesson wrap-up questions with 100% accuracy. During the lesson, students will be able to recall facts about food labels by looking at a variety of food labels for the duration of the activity. During the lesson, students will be able to make a meal plan for a day by using the recommended portion sizes for the duration of the activity. During the activity, students will be able to analyze food labels by writing down which food labels goes to which food for the duration of the activity.These objectives can be changed to meet your standards for your state or local district. Modifications are always based on the creativity of the teacher, these are just guidelines to get the teacher to brainstorm bigger and better ideas based on the information presented. Enjoy!
