In this 6 week (2 lessons/week) PYP unit plan on Health-Related Fitness - focus is on practicing, developing and understanding our physical fitness through exercises, activities and games that build our Health and Skill-Related Fitness Components. Weekly lessons engage students with a target fitness component that is focused on exercises and games as well as dynamic discussion of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn through cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition discussions and activities. Additionally, students will be introduced to and practice the skills-related components of agility, balance, coordination, speed and reaction time. A summative project using Pic Collage is an engaging, fun and creative way to capture our students exercise interests and inspire their continued fitness participation. A great fitness focused unit that combines many elements of the whats, hows and whys of exercise and fitness.
