Product Description
Creative Primary and Secondary source rotation for students to take a closer look at Andrew Jackson's Health Issues. Students rotate through 11 stations, reading the excerpt at each station and illustrating the illness/injury/symptom using their Medical Sketch Pad Capture Sheet. Each station also prompts students to consider how his leadership and character were affected by this condition.

After completing all 11 stations, students will:
1. Be able to analyze how Jackson's health issues have affected his character and leadership.
2. Have a completed Medical Sketch Pad displaying all his physical and mental ailments.

BACKGROUND:
Andrew Jackson has the nickname “Ol Hickory” because he was as strong as a hickory tree. Or was he? According to historians and doctors, Andrew Jackson was one of the most sickly Presidents of all time. But perhaps his internal strength outweighed his physical sickness? Let’s investigate!

Best known for his victory at New Orleans, this military hero became the 7th President of the United States. While serving for eight years, he faced chronic health issues such as dysentery, breathing difficulty, water retention, chronic abdominal issues, kidney failure, and possible mercury poisoning. Not to mention, depression from his wife's death. These problems could not be ignored by Jackson. Let’s take a look at Jackson’s medical history and see if we can learn more about how his medical issues affected his leadership and character.
