The PowerPoint can be presented to students to introduce content/lead discussion and the assignment/rubric/quiz slides are formatted to use as student handouts to provide to your class.
Grade 6 Health Outcomes:
Analyze the influences (e.g., cultural, social) on perceptions of and personal standards related to body image, and the resulting impact on the identities and the well-being of self, family, and community.
Assess how health promotions and advertising (related to but not limited to tobacco, alcohol, diabetes, and HIV) influence personal standards and behaviours and determine how and why certain groups of consumers (e.g., youth as ‘replacement’ smokers) are targeted.
Assess the role of personal standards in decision making related to body image.
Content can be easily adapted to suit the following Health outcomes in the Grade 8 curriculum:
Explain the motivation for and the consequences of being satisfied and dissatisfied with how we look. Represent the impact of different attitudes and behaviours (body image satisfaction, body image behaviour, body image investment and body image perception) on my quality of life and the life of my family.
Describe the kinds of support that one may need at various stages/steps when making healthy decisions and the implications or consequences of support.
Construct a personal goal statement to support others with their body image.
