This module will cover cardiac arrest, CPR, risk factors for stroke and heart attack. The critical use of AEDs will be explained and how to operate them will be described. Students will learn basic skills of first aid. This module will help the student get ready to take the American Heart Association, Heart Saver, AED, and First Aid class to obtain certification. This is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged.
6.1 Describe the occurrence of cardiac arrest
6.2 Understand the chain of events that must occur when performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
6.3 Demonstrate first aid for bleeding and wounds, shock, poisoning, burns and other specific illness and disorders
6.4 Successfully complete American Heart CPR. AED, and First Aid training according to the American Heart Association and acquire certification. This is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged. Many states offer a free CPR certification course. Check with your local American Heart Association.
