This resource is a detailed look at the new Canada's food guide, published in 2019. All activities are up-to-date and highly relevant to your healthy eating program. You will find informational sheets, worksheets, and pages that can be used as assessments to inform you of student learning. An answer key is provided, as well.

The expectations within this resource suggest it best serves high functioning grade 5 & 6 students, as well as intermediate, middle school, and early high school students.

Make your teaching easy, and your students extremely knowledgeable. You will also feel comfortable leaving these worksheets with supply teachers as they are easy to follow for independent work.

Students will learn:

-why the food guide is important

-what healthy foods are recommended for a healthy diet

-the health benefits of vegetables and fruits

-that healthy food can come in various formats for convenience

-what is special about protein foods

-plant-based protein is recommended and why that is so

-to describe a saturated fat

-to describe a whole grain vs. a refined grain

-how to use an ingredient list to know if a product is an actual whole grain

-the importance of fibre and how to find sufficient levels in a product using a nutrition facts table

-to compare ingredient lists and nutrition facts tables

-define what processed foods are and why they are discouraged

-to understand the benefits of water over other drinks

-that being mindful of your eating will improve your eating habits

-know that home cooking or eating with others will improve eating habits
