The “Healthy Habits” “Healthy Foods” Sentence Building with Pronouns and Verbs activity set includes:
A “He/She is eating ___” Adapted Book and an interactive “Feed the Lady” healthy food file folder activity.

“Feed the Lady” Healthy food file folder activity:
This “Healthy Habits” themed file folder is a motivating way for students to identify healthy foods. Students choose a food icon from the left side of the folder. Then, they use a healthy food guide visual (with pictures of healthy foods) to determine if it is healthy by answering a yes/no prompt. If the picture they chose is a healthy food, the student will put the food icon onto a sentence strip to create a sentence including pronouns, present progressive verbs, and food labels.
There are two different sentence strips according to the differing ability levels in classrooms.
The full sentence strip is for students who can verbally label words/ sentences, or students who use communication devices. The other sentence strip with boxes can be used for students whose primary mode of communication is PECS. These students can choose the correct pronouns, verb, and food, and arrange it in the correct order. Student/Staff will then point to each icon as staff read the sentence aloud.
After creating an utterance, the student will insert the healthy food into the “lady’s” mouth to “eat” it. The picture of the food will go into a sandwich bag attached to the back of the folder.
If the food icon they chose is “not healthy,” the student will put it back onto the file folder.

“He/She is eating ________ Adapted book:
This adapted book works on identifying pronouns, action words, and nouns (foods). Students create a sentence describing the illustrated picture on each page using picture icons and a sentence strip prompt. When finished, students can use their AAC device or words to read the sentence. Ex. “He is eating an apple.”
