The “Healthy Habits” Core words and actions activities includes a “Healthy Actions Sorting File Folder” Activity and a “Healthy Habits” Core Word Tracing and Picture to Word Match Mini-books and Printable Worksheets.
Healthy actions sorting file folder
This sorting activity focuses on sorting pictures from the topic “Healthy Habits” by function or by core words: including “eat”, “move” and “clean”. This activity is aligned with the “visual performance” section of a common Autism rating scale assessment. This activity is also great for AAC users. Students can find the words on their device (or staff can modeling with the device) while sorting. For example: “Move” “jump” “trampoline”, etc…
Healthy Habits core word tracing and picture to word match mini books and printable worksheets(12 words)
This activity includes 12 core words to trace as well as match pictures to. Core words are great to work on, because they could be used a variety of contexts and are more frequently used in language than nouns. This is a great way to make curricular topics meaningful to students with special needs.
The “bubble letter” tracing format works well to provide structure for tracing. The yellow also is helpful to make the traceable area stand out.
There are two different variations to this activity. You can print it and use it as a cut/paste activity with the black and white version. You can also laminate and cut the individual word cards and make it a task that can be repeated with the colored version.
When laminated, students can use a dry erase marker to trace the letters.
