Product Description
This Grade 4 Health teaching resource offers an in-depth coverage of all the indicators for the outcome USC4.6: Access healthy stress management strategies (relaxation skills, stress control skills, guided imagery, expressing feelings, exercising.)

Although it has been written to meet the outcome and indicators for the Saskatchewan Health curriculum, it will meet the needs of educators teaching students about how important it is for them to have a sense of identity.

Lessons are presented in the order of the indicators:

a,. Develop and use respectful language to talk about stress (grief, loss, fear, expectations) and to describe the intensity of feelings (rating scale/thermometer of 1 – 10)

b. Communicate an informal personal understanding of stress (reaction of worry and/or pre-occupation)

c. Explore the responses one may experience as a result of stress (heart-rate increase, blushing, knots in stomach, butterflies in stomach, dry mouth, sleeplessness, loss of concentration)

d. Determine how and why people react differently to stress (cultural traditions, role models)

e. Recognize potentially stressful situations and examine possible reaction to the experience

f. Analyze common coping strategies for managing stress

g. Examine and discuss media portrayals of stressors such as divorce, death, and loss and media portrayals of stress management strategies

h. Describe strategies (writing in a journal, seeking guidance from a trusted adult/Elder, talking with a friend, participating in cultural ceremonies, reading a book about grief) for managing stress (including divorce, death and loss)
