Investigate the effects of increasing exercise on your heart rate. Low prep activity that is lots of fun. Great for teaching the scientific method, variables, and graphing. Teachers will appreciate the ease of use and students will love getting active in class.
It is geared for 4th and 5th grade students. Please check out the k-1st and 2nd/3rd grade heart rate journals in my store.
Students will follow the scientific method to answer the question. Students will brainstorm their prior knowledge to write a hypothesis. They will learn how to take their pulse and calculate the beats per minute. Students will integrate their math skills to calculate the mean of each trial and create a bar graph. Students will summarize their data, come up with possible errors, and answer questions about the investigation. By the end of the investigation students should be able to:
* Identify the independent variable, dependent variable, constants, and control in the experiment
* Correctly write a hypothesis and summarize the results
* Understand the role of the heart in exercise
* Correctly calculate the mean and create bar graph

Thank you for taking the time to look at my investigation journal. For educators teaching multiple grade levels please check the corresponding k-1st and 2nd/3rd grade journals. They are great for home school educators teaching several grades at one time.
