This small, basic unit on heat and light from the sun and other sources is a great introduction for students! They will explore vocabulary, heat and light from the sun, mechanical and electrical machines as heat sources, heat from friction, and common misconceptions about heat.
NOTE: This packet is best used with thermometers the kids can use to determine varying temperatures of objects!

~two vocabulary activities
~a comparison of objects in direct sunlight vs. objects in the shade
~a look at why living things need the sun's heat and light
~an exploration of mechanical and electrical heat and light sources
~a quick experiment page about heat created from friction
