This document (created by Lindsey DeLuca) includes a grading rubric/explanation for a solar heat collector project.
Students must create a solar heat collector out of ordinary materials and bring it in to test it against their classmates!
I have personally used this project in my classroom for six years and have been amazed with the student following and results! I had one student raise the temperature of his heat collector by 233 degrees Fahrenheit! Really, the creativity of the devices can be quite amazing. It is hard to tell which one will do best until they are actually tested.
This project would work well in any course in which heat is discussed: physical science, general science, earth science, geology, astronomy, oceans, oceanography, meteorology, weather, chemistry, engineering, STEM, physics, environmental science, biology, climate studies, etc.
