Here are 4 weeks worth of lesson plans of hands-on experiments for the Georgia Performance Standard:
Standard: S3P1. Students will investigate how heat is produced and the effects of heating and cooling, and will understand a change in temperature indicates a change in heat.
a. Categorize ways to produce heat energy such as burning, rubbing (friction), and mixing one thing with another.
b. Investigate how insulation affects heating and cooling.
c. Investigate the transfer of heat energy from the sun to various materials.
d. Use thermometers to measure the changes in temperatures of water samples (hot, warm, cold) over time.
You can copy and paste these plans directly into your lesson plan template! These lesson plans cover topics such as insulators, conductors, friction, and measuring temperature. These plans go hand-in-hand with my All About Heat Experiments Booklet on my TPT Store. All of the lessons are hands-on so the students can really explore the standards. Some of the lessons are adapted from the GPS Frameworks.
The lessons included are: Understanding Importance of Thermometers Experiment, Friction Experiment, Heat Transfer Experiment, Ice Cube Race Heat Transfer Experiment, Getting Warmer Conductor and Insulator Experiment, Conductor and Insulator Cut and Paste, Save the Ice Cube Insulation Experiment, Keeping Warm Insulator Experiment, Heat and Color Experiment, Heat and Color Experiment 2, and a culminating activity to create a solar oven out of a pizza box to make Smores! Yum!
