Caution: Do not purchase this if you have already purchased my Physical Science Volume #1 Detective's Review Bundle. or Heat and Temperature Detective's Matching Review Bundle
If you have purchased either of those bundles then you already have this activity.
Your student detectives will solve the case about "Heat and Temperature" by completing a 12 card domino path matching activity.
The first card will say “Start” and will have the first question. Find the answer to the first question and place it above the start card. The card that has the first answer will also have the second question. Continue to find the matches until you have created the entire “Detective's Path” in order to solve the case. The last card will have the last answer and will also say “Finish”.
This activity can be used for individual students, learning centers, stations, pairs, or as a group activity. All you need to do is print, laminate, and cut the clue cards. A Detective's Clue Board is also provided for the students to create the path on. The clue board makes it extra easy for you to grade visually, however, you can also allow students to record answers on the provided answer sheet.
The following topics are in this review activity:
Heat, temperature, calorie, specific heat, heat flow, thermometer, Joule, thermal energy, Celsius, temperature changes, BTU
This activity is designed to help students obtain a basic knowledge of concepts associated with heat and temperature.
Students must have a basic knowledge of heat temperature in order to achieve goals and objectives that are associated with the following Next Generation Science Standards:
MS-PS3-4. Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.
HS-PS3-2. Develop and use models to illustrate that energy at the macroscopic scale can be accounted for as a combination of energy associated with the motion of particles (objects) and energy associated with the relative position of particles (objects).
HS-PS3-4. Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the transfer of thermal energy when two components of different temperature are combined within a closed system results in a more uniform energy distribution among the components in the system (second law of thermodynamics).
