Bundle Description

Caution: Do not purchase this if you have already purchased my Physical Science Volume #1 Detective's Review Bundle. If you have purchased that bundle then you already have these activities.

Also, I have just added Heat Transfer Detective's Puzzle Matching Review to the end of this set as well.

Your student detectives will solve the case about "Heat, Heat Transfer, and Temperature" by completing 4 separate matching activities (two domino paths and two puzzle matching reviews). Each of these will be posted individually soon for sale. You can get them all now for a discounted price with this bundle!

Be sure to download the preview to get a good look at this activity!

The preview, however does not yet show Heat Transfer Detective's Puzzle Matching Review. Please click the link for that activity for more information.

This bundle includes the following sets:

Detective's Heat and Temperature Puzzle Matching Review, Detective's Heat and Temperature Domino Path, Heat Transfer Detective’s Domino Path , and Heat Transfer Detective's Puzzle Matching Review.

Detective's Puzzle Matching Reviews

Each Puzzle Matching Review activity includes 16 separate matching puzzle piece sets.

Students can match the puzzle pieces "just as they are" for a quick learning activity, or they can follow the review game directions. For the game, students can hide the edges of the long portion of puzzle pieces under the laminated set of review game directions. Each student picks up one short puzzle piece at a time and then pulls out a long portion to match with it. If it is correct then the puzzle pieces will fit together. If it is not correct then the student must slide the long portion under the laminated set of directions so that only the clue is showing again and the cut portion is hidden. Students can take turns. The one who has the most correct matches wins.

My students like to repeat this type of activity later as a quick review for the test. Students can also use them as a quick set of flash cards. One student can call out the clue on the long piece while not showing any of the card to the other student. The other student can use the short puzzle pieces as a word bank.

Domino Path Matching Activities

Students will also complete two different (12 card) domino style matching activities. The first card will say “Start” and will have the first question. Find the answer to the first question and place it above the start card. The card that has the first answer will also have the second question. Continue to find the matches until you have created the entire “Detective's Path” in order to solve the case. The last card will have the last answer and will also say “Finish”.

Both types of activities can be used for individual students, learning centers, stations, pairs, or as a group activity. All you need to do is print, laminate, and cut the puzzle pieces and clue cards.

Topics for this review activity include the following:

Heat, joule, specific heat, temperature, Celsius, Kelvin, insulator, conductor, thermal energy, freezing point, boiling point, absolute zero, calorie, Btu, conduction, convection, thermal radiation, heat flow, vacuum, thermal equilibrium, thermometer.

This differentiated set of activities is designed to help students obtain a basic knowledge of concepts associated with heat, heat transfer, and temperature.

Students must have a basic knowledge of these concepts in order to achieve goals and objectives that are associated with the following Next Generation Science Standards:

Middle School

MS-PS3-4. Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.

High School

HS-PS3-2. Develop and use models to illustrate that energy at the macroscopic scale can be accounted for as a combination of energy associated with the motion of particles (objects) and energy associated with the relative position of particles (objects).

HS-PS3-4. Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the transfer of thermal energy when two components of different temperature are combined within a closed system results in a more uniform energy distribution among the components in the system (second law of thermodynamics).
