This worksheet is can be used to write about senses associated with water sources and rivers. The students are asked to write a sentence for the sense of sight, sound and touch associated with a river. Once students have one sentence for each they can copy their water poem onto a piece of blue paper or draw and colour a picture on the back of the worksheet about their writing.
In our grade 1 water Science unit we talk about different water sources. I solidify the learning in Science with water books during reading response time. For this lesson I read the beautifully written and illustrated book "Hello Ocean" by Pam Munoz Ryan, and then played a youtube clip of a river for the students (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwSHOI7DwWM). I asked students to take note of what they saw, what they heard and what they would want to explore if they were at the river. Students then work with the teacher to brainstorm "I see, I hear and I feel" statements about the river. Once students have ample ideas they are expected to copy down their favourite sentences on their worksheet to create a poem.
