OBJECTIVE: To help students K-5 with vocabulary acquisition by having them determine the meanings of unknown words in a fun and holiday-themed center activity.
ACTIVITY: No prep needed other than to print off copies of this word problem story of two little leprechauns named Lucky and Lily. Place the copies in centers and use your students’ or child’s performance to determine which ones are ready to move on and which need to be pulled into small group for reteaching.
MATERIALS: Besides crayons or colored pencils, none, just print off enough copies of the activity that you need. Answer key and printable student evidence/artifact of success included.
RESOURCE/TEXT: No text is necessary. However, these words are from the Journey’s text: Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend by Ann Cameron, a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt book.
