Designed to accompany The Old Man and the Sea, this 30 minute lesson asks students to compare a sentence of Faulkner's to a sentence of Hemingway's and to analyze Hemingway's diction and style. This lesson can easily be adapted to focus on elements of grammar such as verb phrases that you may be studying concurrently. Extra credit options include sentence diagramming (answer keys included) and writing a story in Hemingway's voice. The latter may be adapted to a larger assignment.
