This two-page activity is packed with 84 characteristics for students to classify. Students are asked to write "L" on the line if the characteristic is an attribute of left-hemispheric dominance and "R" on the line if the characteristic is an attribute of right-hemispheric dominance.
Students should first take a few hemispheric dominance surveys online (there are a bunch to choose from!) to learn if they have a learning preference. Once they have been formally introduced to this topic of how hemispheric dominance affects human behavior, they are ready for this classification activity. This activity will help students learn and reinforce the patterns that exist for the two types of hemispheric dominance.
It is important to remind students that awareness of hemispheric dominance is not a means to profile students. Each student utilizes both hemispheres of the brain. There is a plasticity aspect of brains, and that they are molded with environmental experiences. Understanding how one learns and becoming aware of one's innate preferences is an empowering asset.
This document is editable. It includes a two-page answer key with the "L" answers in bright blue font and the "R" answers in bright red font.
