This activity has been designed to enhance student understanding for sequencing historical events as per the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). It can be used as both a direct instruction activity or as skill practice at a literacy station or reading center.
I have found this to be successful when used as follow-up at a listening station or at a station with various sources available on a specific person. Pages 2 and 3 of the document contain cards for all 8 events significant to said person’s life. These can be cut and used by each student or printed on cardstock, laminated, and used cooperatively by a small group prior to the student completing page 1 independently.
To add rigor, I have coupled this activity with another similar timeline activity and had students look for common themes, corresponding events, relationships, or other connections between the two individuals.
Although this product can work effectively as a stand-alone activity, I use it in conjunction with an inventors unit I teach and am currently developing activities for TpT (booklet, articles, center activities, unit test, etc.)
