This resource includes three original texts about explorer Henry Hudson with an “Understanding the Text” page and a “Using Language” page for each text. These activities give the students a chance to demonstrate their understanding of what they have read, using vocabulary, making inferences and evaluating historical content, and expressing themselves through writing.
The three passages in this unit discuss Hudson’s early life, his accomplishments as an explorer, and his mysterious end, the victim of a mutiny.
The unit is designed primarily for Social Studies students in grades 4-6 but could be used for informational text study in ELA. While the passages are continuous, each of the 3 texts can be used one at a time and assigned as the teacher wishes.
A full answer key is provided.
