This presentation is primarily for the study of the African American artist Henry Ossawa Tanner. It could be used for Black History Month, but could also be used for questioning, story telling, compare and contrast, and even biblical studies for home schooling. Henry O. Tanner was one of the first black artists to reach international fame, but his poignant paintings tell beautiful stories. They would make great writing prompts. This presentation was written for upper elementary, but could be adapted for any grade level. Additional sources for information can be found in the notes section of the slides. The questioning activities are also listed in the notes.
