Henry and Mudge: The First Book is a wonderful book about a little boy getting his first dog and the adventures they have together. It is a perfect book for early readers to read and gain confidence in reading a "chapter book." The activities provided in this resource target building the word knowledge of early readers through sight word recognition of words that are often confused and vocabulary development. Some of the word knowledge activities include a color by sight word page, vocabulary detective pages, and an interactive word scoot assessment. Students will also have the opportunity to make inferences through predicting and then proving their predictions with evidence from the text. They will also practice summarizing the main idea of each chapter in their own words and sketching a picture of the main idea. We hope you enjoy reading Henry and Mudge: The First Book with your students and find this resource useful!
