I've created a data sheet for a list of words found in the children's book, Henry's Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. As you read, you can stop on these words and have the student tell you a synonym (or antonym) for these words. Great for vocabulary building and/or assessment of synonyms and antonyms. Both the synonym and antonym list goes in order from the beginning of the book to the end. I go through my copy of the book and highlight the synonym words with yellow highlighting tape and the antonyms with pink highlighting tape to give the kids an idea of when we'll be stopping to talk about a word. There is room to use with a group of up to three students but could be modified for a larger group. Vocabulary around the grade 2-5 level.
