Go beyond memorizing to unlock the big ideas of heredity with these unique notes. Through a combination of visuals and blanks to fill in the content, this product will help kids make connections between how traits get passed down and the details of genes, chromosomes, and alleles. It can be difficult to clearly communicate this topic to middle school students since they may not be ready to learn about some of the more complicated process involved. But with this clear layout, my students could understand the science behind how they could get DNA from both parents, but not look exactly like either one, and how siblings from the same parents could be different as well. Once you give your students a tool to reach higher understanding, you can push them to articulate the big ideas of your heredity unit, and that’s the learning that sticks.
This product works well for guided notes or as a follow up worksheet. Two versions are included: interactive notebook size and stand alone worksheet. Teacher key and classroom use ideas are also included.
