This activity is very fun and is a great way for the teacher to identify any problems that they students may be having. For this activity, students will work in pairs (or alone). They will complete a punnett square and answer questions based on information given about the "papa and mama monster". The students must have their trait checked before they can move onto another. Once all the traits have been determined, the students make the monster on the smartboard or whiteboard. Whoever determined the trait is the one who gets to draw it. This provides them with some motivation to complete the problems.
I do this with my students and they love it! The preview file shows a picture of the monster my students made today.
One thing not included is the order that I have them do the traits. For example, it's best to start with body, then legs, arms, etc... before moving onto details such as freckles, ear hair, etc...
