This song is about the following heroes who made a difference in the lives of people: Louis Pasteur, Sitting Bull, Cesar Chavez, and Susan B. Anthony. Written to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It", each phrase gives a snippet of information on each hero. After singing each stanza, the students shout out the hero's name that is written in bold text. I have incorporated a patch, clap, snap pattern into the song for a change of pace, and to give those kinesthetic learners an outlet. When I write patch, I mean pat your knees. You will get a copy of the song's lyrics in this download that you can make copies of for your students to read whole group with you. As a follow-up, your students can read with a partner or in a small group setting. My students enjoy illustrating the songs in the margins after we learn them. This works great in a center - students partner read and then illustrate the song!
