I think your students will enjoy learning about people who have supported diversity throughout modern history.
This product has many things that you’ll find useful throughout your study. It includes all the components that you’ll need for students to create their own individual lap books. You’ll find specific instructions for your convenience on each page of the lap book’s components. This will tell you how many copies of each page to produce as you prepare your materials. (I’ve combined multiple components per page to cut down on paper consumption.)
This unit also includes a pacing map and instructional plan for the length of the unit. You’ll also find a reading passage for each “hero” that I’ve included in this product. While the reading passages included in this bundle include most all the answers for completing the graphic organizers, I would encourage you to check out books from your school or public library for students to use during their research. This will give them an opportunity to synthesize information from multiple sources.
Suggested heroes (and those whose reading passages and pre-designed lapbook covers are included in the project) are Ellen Ochoa, Roberto Clemente, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Nelson Mandela, and Lionel Messi. However, your students' work is not restricted to just these heroes. I allow my students the freedom of choice, and this past year, several chose members of their own family. The product itself can be used to study ANY biography!
