I created this quick performance task for my own kindergarteners to show me what they know about numerical representations. We've worked on number fluency in class but I needed a way to quickly check to see who truly understands the concept of numbers. Each bug has three puzzle pieces that need to be matched on its back: a dice representation, a tens frame representation, and a random (fingers, math cubes, etc.)
Also included is a set of bug cards with representations given where students will identify the number, for students who are unable to complete the first task. A blank bug card is included for higher-level thinkers to create their own representations.
A rubric is included. I've included both a color set and black and white. I recommend printing on yardstick and laminating each piece after cutting to ensure durability.
This set can also be used as a workstation. All pieces will fit in a 6x9 envelope.
