Supporting Indigenous Literature in the Classroom

In this unit, students explore this incredibly rich story with reading comprehension strategies such as visualization, connection, questioning, predicting and summarizing.

Easy to use reading response pages have been created for each lesson; as well as student evaluation and teacher evaluation rubrics for each page.

Included is a First Nations’ Legends Passport, lined and interlined versions, with an assessment rubric. The passport can be used to record each legend the students read. It can be done as a class, or separately as an independent reading log to support your First Nations focus.

To obtain a copy of this book and others like it, I recommend checking out Strong Nations, an online bookstore supplying indigenous and Native American books. Not only do they have an extensive selection, they provide themed book bundles for all age ranges.
