This fully editable and Google Drive-ready student activity guide will allow students and teachers to come to a greater understanding of the lives of the women behind the book and the film "Hidden Figures."
The activities contained in this student guide will allow students to interact with the history that the film presents and gain a deeper understanding of the lives of the women portrayed. The following activities can be used either to prepare students to screen the film or as follow-up activity.
The activities can also be used to help spark a class discussion after the film’s screening.
Note that the four main individuals portrayed in the book Hidden Figures are:
Katherine Goble Johnson - Calculated the flight trajectories for John Glenn’s successful orbit around earth.
Dorothy Vaughan - Supervised the “West Computers” unit and was a pioneer in the use of mechanical computers at NASA.
Mary Jackson - The first African-American woman to be an engineer for NASA.
Christine Mann Darden - Was an aerospace engineer for NASA. She started in 1973 and is not featured in the film.
