Welcome to the fascinating world of cryptography, the world of hidden messages!
This unique and comprehensive course contains detailed and illustrated explanations of substitution ciphers, transposition ciphers, and steganography. There are plenty of activities for individual students, groups, or the entire class.
For this course, the spotlight is given to the following ciphers and codes that students can apply themselves such as Atbash, Caesar Shift, Mixed Alphabet Cipher, Pigpen, Morse Code, Vigenère Cipher, Rail Fence Cipher, Route Cipher, Columnar Transposition, and Polybius Square (aka Prisoner’s Knocking Code).
Some of these ciphers will find their way into the creative steganography assignments.
The course material comes with a glossary and solutions.
The whole unit can be taught in 14 lessons. However, depending on the students age and interest, this might be an ambitious time frame. I would recommend reserving 20 lessons or skip some of the ciphers.
