This is a fun game designed to reinforce sight word recognition and identification. The first 200 Fry words are included, divided into five sets of forty words each. Select which word cards you wish to use and copy them onto cardstock and laminate for durability. You can focus on a single word set or mix and match to suit your needs. You will also need to select and prepare the two pages of “special” cards of the Month:
June = safari animals and suns
July = rodeo and cowfolk
August = ocean creatures and shells
One at time, invite the children to come up and choose a word card to read. If s/he is correct, the card is removed to reveal what is behind. If there is a “special” card, either a treat is provided or an action is performed.
The word card is then returned to its place in the pocket chart. For children new to this game, you may wish to turn the card backward so that it is not selected again. Keep the card facing forward for a more difficult challenge. In subsequent plays of the game, less "special" cards are used to increase the difficulty/suspense factor.
