Studying Ancient Egypt? What better way than to transcribe your name into hieroglyphics? Use this chart to help you write words, or decode words from hieroglyphics to standard English Latin alphabet (AaBbCcDd). Could be used as a center activity, in whole or small groups, or as a GTE activity.
I looked at many different Egyptian resources and made a compilation of the information I found. I tried to be true and accurate, while also keeping it simple enough for elementary school students. My students love it. We laminated each page so the students could circle the hieroglyph needed with dry-erase markers.
Since hieroglyphics is based on sounds and less on actual letters, this also works great with younger students who are used to sounding out words. You can spend one class period, or several. It's fun and educational!
You will need 8.5" x 11" paper to print on.
